Early Treatment
Children are always of primary concern regarding their healthcare, but this is not always common knowledge around their dental care. Just like regular check-ups with a physician is essential, the American Association of Orthodontists recommends that phase one, or early treatment, starts as early as six or seven years of age. This is done in conjunction with regular dental appointments to confirm that the child is progressing correctly.
What is Early Treatment?
Early treatment, or phase one treatment, is often done when the child is six or seven years of age – with phase two occurring around their 11th year. The primary reason early treatment is done is that children are often much more susceptible to dental and oral diseases due to many different factors. They are most vulnerable when they start to lose their baby teeth in favor of their adult ones – which usually starts at six years of age. At this time, early treatment assesses potential jaw and tooth issues, with the most common being the identification of possible or current bite issues.
What Does My Child Need Early Treatment?
Diagnosing potential or immediate bite issues is of paramount concern, as it can be corrected much easier at an early age rather than suffering later in life. If your child has not yet received the appropriate attention that they require, Dr. Jamie Goodreau and Dr. Ashtyn Goodreau of Chalfont, PA is here to help.
Interceptive Orthodontic Treatment
There is an adage that states: “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”. In the field of orthodontics, this is especially true. Any potential problem that could occur with the teeth and jaw of your child will be much easier to fix the earlier it is spotted. Common solutions include braces, which not only set teeth up for success but also form great oral care habits much after the braces are removed.
Identifies Other Issues
Early treatment does not just benefit the child in terms of correcting bite issues but gives the professional a more holistic picture of their care. Through frequent visits, we can more easily spot any problems that could occur, such as improper growth of the teeth, risk of infection, or any other similar issues.
Setting Your Child Up For Success
Early treatment and proper follow-ups are not just recommended, but they are extremely beneficial in setting your child up for success. With proper habits, early identification, and a routine, the need for phase two treatment could be eliminated.
